We talk about the tenth because that is the day we promise a close, and people deserve to know it is not a law.
See the cadence
We talk about the tenth because that is the day we promise a close, and people deserve to know it is not a law.
See the cadenceThe tenth is the day this practice aims to have the prior month tied to the bank, the open items named, and a short read ready. If today is early, that tenth can be this month's. If today is late, it is the next one. We picked a day you can remember. We did not pick it out of a code book.
Calling it a legal deadline would be a lie, and it would also make a late month feel like a penalty. It is not a penalty. It is a rhythm. The relief people feel is the rhythm holding, not a fine avoided.
A week of storms can blow a tenth over without anyone failing. Hail on a roof, a shop closed for a day, a crew out on calls. The next tenth is the repair. A statute would not be that kind. The notice can sit on the table until the crew is back, and the close still has a day with a name.
Sales tax, where your state charges it, has its own calendar, and that state agency publishes it. Quarterly estimates have their own federal dates. Unemployment reports have theirs. When one of those sits inside a month, it outranks our tenth. We say which date is the agency's and which date is ours. A filing that can be extended still has to be named before the tenth pretends to cover it.
A rate stays on the agency page, not frozen here as if we owned it. Rates move. The page that matters is the agency page, read at the time of the work. A public article that freezes a rate is how a fleet goes stale, so this one names the kind of date and points at the publisher.
Some states add a local piece on top of the state sales tax, and some do not. That is a place fact, and it matters when someone is reconciling a return and expecting a county line that is not there. We mention it so the close is not hunting a row the state never charged. The form in front of you is the one we tie.
Using the tenth when it is still ahead When the tenth already passed The rest of the questions
Without a day, the close becomes whenever. Whenever is how a year arrives at the return with months still open. The tenth is a promise between us. You can hold us to it. We can hold the file to it. A statute is not required for a promise to be useful.
If you already have a day with your team, we can use yours, as long as it is a real day and not a season. The name on this site is the tenth because most owners who land here do not have a day yet. The habit matters more than the numeral.
Owners tell us the worry is a letter, not the tenth itself. The letter has an agency behind it and a date that does not care about our rhythm. The tenth is how the file is ready when that letter comes, so the answer is a record rather than a scramble. Keeping our own day is what makes the real date survivable. The tenth stays a promise between us, and an agency date keeps the authority it already had.
If a notice and the tenth are arguing, tell us both dates.
You will be talking to the Steven Palmieri practice.
